Skips, Roll-On-Roll-Off Skips and Compactors

For clients that generate a large volume of waste on a daily or weekly basis, and especially for those with very large volumes of general waste, City Waste London can provide a range of compactors and skips in various sizes to suit your requirements. These can be installed into a loading bay or storage area for easy and efficient waste disposal.

Our team can help you select the most appropriate container size and type based on your waste volumes and the available space on your site. We can also provide flexible emptying schedules, which can be arranged on an ad hoc or scheduled basis, depending on your needs. With our compactors and skips, you can ensure that your waste is being managed in a safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPS)

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are a group of chemicals that remain in the environment for a long time and can cause harm to humans and wildlife. These chemicals are usually the byproducts of industrial processes and agricultural activities.

POPs are characterized by their persistence, meaning that they do not break down easily in the environment. They are also bioaccumulative, which means that they can accumulate in the fatty tissues of living organisms and can magnify up the food chain.

The Stockholm Convention, an international treaty signed in 2001, aims to protect human health and the environment from the harmful effects of POPs. The treaty bans or restricts the production, use, and release of 12 of the most hazardous POPs, known as the “dirty dozen.” These include pesticides like DDT and industrial chemicals like PCBs.

In addition to the dirty dozen, there are many other POPs that are of concern, including brominated flame retardants, perfluorinated compounds, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.

The effects of exposure to POPs can range from developmental and reproductive disorders to cancer and immune system dysfunction. Because of their persistence and ability to travel long distances through air and water, POPs can also have global impacts on human and wildlife health.

Reducing the production and release of POPs is crucial to protecting the environment and human health. Governments, industries, and individuals can all take steps to minimize their use of POPs and promote safer alternatives.

This means that these items must be dealt with in a strict way, and the cost of handling and disposal has changed for this.

Here are some examples of waste that qualify as POP materials;

  • Sofas
  • Sofa Bed
  • Armchairs
  • Kitchen and Dining Room Chairs
  • Stools and Foot stools
  • Futons
  • Beanbags
  • Floor and Sofa Cushions

Once we have removed your items that may contain POPs, they will be processed using our COSHH or WEEE contractors.
